Dr Imran Ahmad is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Deputy Clinical Director at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. He was appointed as DAS President in November 2021 following a 3 year term as DAS Secretary. Dr Ahmad has been a committee member since 2012. He has a specialist interest in difficult airway management and is the clinical lead for airway management at the Trust and was the education lead for the Guy’s advanced airway fellowship for over 10 years. Dr Ahmad is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London and Course Director for the Guy’s Airway Management Course. Dr Ahmad has over 2000 citations and 100 peer reviewed publications which include three DAS guidelines (2015 DAS intubation guidelines, 2020 DAS ATI guidelines and 2021 DAS post thyroidectomy haematoma guidelines) and the Anaesthesia paper of the year 2020 IntubateCOVID study. He has also been an invited contributing author to numerous airway management books, including Hagberg & Benumhof’s Airway Management book, Core Topics in Airway management and Virtual Endoscopy and 3D reconstructions in the airways. As a result of his academic and clinical work, Dr Ahmad is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences, which has enabled him to travel to six continents across the world. He has recently has had a number of innovative projects shortlisted for the finals of the national BMJ Awards and Nursing Times Awards.
