DAS Newsletter

Newsletter introduction for DAS website, Summer 2014

The Difficult Airway Society Newsletter continues under the current co-editorship of Achuthan Sajayan (Birmingham) and Joy Beamer. Three issues are produced per year plus a ‘Projects Edition’ published at the time of the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in November.

In this age of electronic dissemination of information we still think it remains meaningful for fee paying members of the Society to receive a hard copy of the Newsletter in the UK and Ireland. With our members overseas receiving it via their in-boxes, not post boxes. In future if it would be easier to receive your copy electronically please let us know.

Along with the website we aim to keep you up to date with the current activity and initiatives of the Society. These currently include the DAS / RCoA Airway Leads project, the forthcoming revised unanticipated difficult intubation guidelines and educational initiatives, within the UK and abroad. In addition, news regarding forthcoming events – most importantly for us the ASM.

New features will include a regular piece entitled ‘From the Pen of the Inventor’. Here we aim to ask inventors of significant innovations in airway management about their design inspirations and the travails they had in bringing a product to market. A regular book review of tomes we think that are of interest in will also feature.

Our aim is to evolve the Newsletter and for that we need your contributions. If you have an idea for an article of interest please get in contact with us at [email protected] . We keep a broad mind as to what constitutes relevance to airway management and the avoidance of hypoxia. If it has relevance to patient safety and a greater understanding of the complex issues within our speciality we will consider it, as we anticipate future article to demonstrate.

Regards

Achuthan Sajayan
